About us
Hi, my name is Sarah and I own Birchwood with my partner Ross, I started working with dogs and cats when I was 11 years old, I have always had a passion to work with animals and I still have the passion and commitment needed to work 7 days a week all year round, working in all weathers. I have worked here since 1991 and me and ross bought here in 2004, so we are very experienced in what we do, I my self have 34yrs experience working with dogs and cats, all breeds all temperaments.
Me and my staff are all qualified up to level 3 animal care, we have veterinary care nurse assistant, animal management degree, GNVQ business studies advanced, animal first aid, dog grooming diploma's and lots of work experience in different settings including vets, rescue centres, police kennels, drug dogs at prisons, grooming rooms, dog shows, horse stables etc
5 Star licence from Amber valley Council
We have recently finished our rebuild of the kennels so now our cattery and kennels are all above the standard regulations needed set by Defra to received 5 star premises, we provide a homely, clean, hygienic environment for your pet
We welcome all breeds from tiny to big pawed giants
In 2024 we rebuilt the kennels to be able to suit individual needs of different sized doggo's, so we have smaller kennels to super sized kennels to take great danes, cane corso's newfoundlands etc
We do not mix pets from different households
With experience under my belt, I will not mix pets from different families, I have seen to many incidents at doggy day care places, home boarding, kennels where multiply dogs are together in a confined space and it only takes one to cause a fight and this can cause massive injuries and social anxiety's, I would not put my own dogs in such a risky environment so I certainly would not do this with any one else's, mixing dogs can cause bad habits too.
Security
We have cctv throughout our property, plus the added bonus we live on site and there is always a person present on site 24/7

Kennels
Our kennels has recently been rebuilt, they are fully central heated, double glazed, brick-built (no wood), they have an external run to look over the fields, we supply beds and blankets , we lead walk twice a day and free play in the afternoon, music is played all day in each room,
Cattery
Our cattery has recently been rebuilt to all the new defra regulations, brick-built, double-glazed, upvc , no wood, individual heaters, we wanted homely but hygienic, music is playing throughout the day, we supply beds, blankets, litter trays, we do ask that you bring there own scratch posts and toys
